Unique Elements that arise from The Deathbird
- Telling a story from different angels rather then in chronological order.
In The Deathbird, several observations can be made concerning the way Ellison wrote the story and the 'power' he exercised in doing so.
- Though he offers power to the reader to view the story in any order they like, he apparently understood that people will usually follow a story the way it has been presented anyway.
- By numbering the sections of the story, he indirectly forces us to read it in the original order. Also, the smaller size of the segments allow the work to be read with less difficulty.
- By doing this, he was able to demonstrate the 'power of narrative': The power to narrate or tell a story is the power to discern how or if events in the story happen.
- The power of narrative is the ultimate power and is reflected in the situation between the mad one and Dira.
